When Star Wars was released in May of 1977, it took another six months for it to reach Finland. The historic Savoy theater in downtown Helsinki, where the film premiered, is now closed, but it’s forever associated with George Lucas’ epic. Finnish illustrator and designer Vesa Lehtimäki was 10 years old when he saw it on the Savoy’s big screen.

“Two of the great moments of my childhood were the first two original Star Wars movies,” says Lehtimäki. “As a kid I wanted to become a movie director. I made some Super 8 movies but it did not work out that well.”

Lehtimäki’s fanboy nostalgia for the franchise of all franchises, in combination with an itch to create his own worlds, led him to conceive Lego On Hoth, a make-believe series of photo-vignettes in which he describes the downtime, hijinks and rigamarole in the daily lives of Imperial and Rebel forces.

“With my photography, I’m revisiting an unfulfilled career path, I guess. With the attached little stories my photos are like tiny one-frame movie scenes,” he says. “And I get to direct Star Wars!”

LEGO USB flash drives. Yes, they’re stackable.

Um, yes. Hi, everyone in the WIRED office would like at least 4. KTHNXBAI.

huffingtonpost:

Okay, so it’s not the kind of LEGO set that you’d want to give to your kids, but this “Breaking Bad” custom build is the coolest homage to AMC’s hit drama since the point-of-view shot reel surfaced earlier this year.

The model recreation of the show’s deluxe drug lab was built by a friend of Redditor GaryIsYouDotCom, who posted the set on June 18.

The lab looks like a creative mash-up of various LEGO sets, which — let’s be honest — is the most fun part of playing with LEGOs anyway. Uproxxx called the model “proof that the Internet is both weird and awesome.” (But mostly it’s just awesome.)

As i09 points out, ” …there are recreations of Gale’s coffee machine, Walt’s pure blue crystal meth, chicken merchant Gustavo Fring, and that episode where Walter goes bonkers trying to kill the fly.”

Alberto Seveso’s underwater photography of ink clouds? Very cool. Adding a lego surfer? Genius.

Imagine: minimalist lego sculptures of your favorite cartoon characters.

I am excited to officially launch my shop with the release of the deer LEGO kit. I’ve tried building it with real pieces now, and I need to make a couple structural changes, but it will look the same. Also, I’m hand drawing the graphics for the instruction manual, which should be fun and painstaking.

I wanted to get these up in time for Christmas, but because I have to order these pieces on an individual basis from resellers, I need orders to come in before December 5th to get them out in time.

This was super fun to do, I hope people like it! Tell your kids, tell your wife.
